Iranian police have arrested eight people in a new crackdown on women who post images of themselves online without their hair covered, state media reported Monday, part of a larger cultural struggle in the Islamic Republic over the country's future.
The arrests are part of a wider crackdown on artists, poets, journalists, bloggers and activists.
The arrests and harsh sentences handed down signal that hard-liners in the police and judiciary, who were unable to stop the accord and fear looser social norms will weaken their power on the public.

500 truck drivers on strike in northern Iran

500 truck drivers went on strike and staged a rally outside the Sarbandar terminal in northern Iran, according to reports received from inside the country. These truck drivers staged their strikes and protests on Thursday and Friday, May 5^th and 6^th, demanding higher pay for long range loads. The current pay is very low and they have extreme difficulties making ends meet due to skyrocketing prices.

Various drivers attacked the director of this terminal for neglecting their requests. Due to the strike staged by the truck drivers a large amount of goods scheduled to be transferred to different areas have been left in this terminal. This is the third strike staged by these truck drivers in the past few months.

Anti-labor mullahs’ regime in Iran couldn’t tolerate even a controlled Labor Day rally

 State authorities in Iran attacked members of the Bus Drivers Union who chanted their own slogans and raised placards in a demonstration staged in Tehran’s Taleghani Avenue. The placards were all rounded up and two syndicate members were arrested.

“Fair pay is our right”, “Release jailed laborers” and “Syndicates are our right,” were the slogans seen on the placards.

Report – Labor Day gatherings in various cities across Iran

Terrified of workers’ anger flaring, the anti-labor mullahs’ regime was forced into holding a completely controlled Labor Day ceremony in Tehran and direct the workers in a very short path for a march. This demonstration was held from Abu Reyhan Avenue to the Taleghani Intersection in Tehran.

Police in Sanandaj, western Iran, ban Labor Day ceremony, arrest 2 activists

On Saturday police in the western city of Sanandaj prevented any Labor Day ceremony outside the Labor House office in this city, said one individual, whereas activists and workers had prior to this used the opportunity to protest and raise the voice of these workers. However, the protesters faced a large number of police and intelligence agents at the site whom prevented their gathering from taking shape. In this rally none of the representatives of the Labor House, associated to the Iranian regime, were present at the site and the workers led and organized their own rally. The agents’ attack led to the arrest of two labor activists by the names of Lotfollah Ahmadi and Nader Rezagholi. These two individuals were transferred to the police intelligence department, and the ceremony was cancelled.

A group of deprived and oppressed workers of the Qom magnesium mine issued a statement commemorating International Labor Day and called on all workers to stage rallies on this day.

Iran: Over 5,000 retired Isfahan steel mill workers rally outside parliament

According to reports received from Tehran, from 7 am on Sunday, April 17^th around, 4,000 retired Isfahan steel mill workers – some with their families – rallied outside the Iranian regime’s parliament. The number of protesters increased by the minute, reaching 5,000 by 10 am. Reports say the rally continued for two days up to now.

The protesters demanded their unpaid pensions and retirement benefits.

Details on Iran’s attempts to abduct pilot who fled to Turkey

The Saudi-based Al Arabiya TV aired new details of an attempt by two Iranian Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS/VEVAK) agents in Turkey to abduct a pilot, Major Ahmed Reza Khosravi.

“Due to the difference in beliefs I had with the establishment, and because I did not believe in the system, and due to my occupation I was forced to do things my commanders asked me to do, including taking part in religious ceremonies that I had no belief in. I was also against the state’s policies, because these policies are based on deluding the people, duplicity and lies. Another issue that led to my resignation and fleeing from Iran was that all my work, personal life and anything I said was always controlled and under surveillance. I had no freedom in my personal life and even my wife’s telephone was under surveillance. I was truly bothered by these measures,” he said in this regard.

Today, there is an irony about us workers, we who are part of the lower class, living in poverty allocated by the Iranian regime itself that is against workers.

Our salary is below 10 million rials a month, while the poverty line is set at 30 million rials!!!

We are left ashamed before our wives and children

Despite all this, we are not sellers!

We will not sell our dignity and pride, and on Labor Day we will clench our fists and chant against the terrorist regime ruling Iran.

We congratulate you and all workers of our country on International Labor Day, especially those working tirelessly and risking their lives on a daily basis in electricity systems and installing electricity and communications towers. These workers are separated from their families for many months of the year to make ends meet and not be left ashamed before their families.

We would like to inform you that we work in very difficult conditions, at times 13 to 15 hours a day at heights of 30 to 300 meters, while we lack any life insurance and our salaries are stolen. With a monthly salary of only $300 dollars we cannot have a decent meal. On Labor Day we are requesting that you be our voice. Currently, our country’s money is spent on terrorist projects, killing innocent people in Syria, Iraq and European countries.

Mr. Secretary-General,

Any appeasement vis-à-vis Khamenei or Rouhani is a crime against humanity. We are requesting from you to distance yourself from these criminals and condemn this anti-human and anti-labor regime for its human rights violations.

An abusive body search by the security forces in Tehran’s Azadi stadium on Sunday April 10th caused the protest of football fans    who had gathered to watch a match. Spectators cried slogans against the security forces and the government authorities. Skirmishes broke out and the government forces asked for help.  They did not succeed to arrest anyone as the crowd hid the victims and took them away.

Iran: Tehran moral patrol, police attacking women under “mal-veiling” pretext

Moral patrols and police in Tehran’s Vanak Square conducted a huge raid to arrest women under the pretext of improper clothing and veils. This new campaign was launched on Sunday, April 3.

“Repressive forces in Vanak Square raided restaurants and public facilities in this area, arresting any man or woman under the pretext of ‘public virtue’ and improper veiling. Those arrested were transferred to unknown locations with vans already parked in the area,” said one restaurant employee.

A heavy security climate was cemented in Vanak Square and its adjacent streets until noon on Monday.

This graveyard holds the bodies of the executed political prisoners, the secretly executed prisoners; prisoners killed under torture and amputated prisoners.

Mullahs in Tehran: untamable and far from today’s global community

Many years ago, back in third grade I read a short story titled “The Last Lesson” from a story collection titled “Last Monday” by a French Author who I do not recall the name. Whole book is about the author’s first hand experience living under Nazis role during the German invasion of France as a kid. “The Last Lesson” describes in details the last French class before the enforcement of Nazi law of ban on teaching French in French schools. This young man described with honesty and in moving words, his emotions, his sorrow and his chagrin for not being able to freely use his mother tongue and praise his national culture. After close to four decades I can still remember how I was affected and cried as I was reading the story.
