According to
reports received from Tehran, from 7 am on Sunday, April 17th
around, 4,000 retired Isfahan steel mill workers – some with their families –
rallied outside the Iranian regime’s parliament. The number of protesters
increased by the minute, reaching 5,000 by 10 am. Reports say the rally
continued for two days up to now.
The protesters
demanded their unpaid pensions and retirement benefits.
Large placards
raised by the retired workers read:
We demand the
following:
1. Receiving
our retirement pensions on time
2. Receiving our
retirement benefits (we have not received various benefits from 2011 forward)
3. Resolving
our medical problems and such expenses
According to
reports from Tehran, hundreds of special anti-riot units and plain clothes
agents were dispatched from 8:30 am on Sunday, April 17th. These oppressive
units were seen preventing people and vehicles from stopping near the protest
site.
