British politician Sir David Amess has pledged his support to the upcoming Free Iran gathering and called on his colleagues throughout Europe to do the same.
Mr. Amess, a Member of the United Kingdom’s House of Commons, relayed in a video message that he is hopeful the rally will demonstrate to Iranian dissidents that they (and their cause) have the backing of democratic countries.
The rally, scheduled for July 9, in Paris, is a chance for supporters of the Iranian Resistance to showcase the “tyranny” of the regime, and to urge the international community to take notice.
Mr. Amess dismissed any notion that Hassan Rouhani’s regime has been moderate, citing that the human rights situation has worsened since Rouhani took office. He said that Iran’s regime should be absolutely ashamed of their execution record.
Mr. Amess said: “The gathering…is a strong message to the oppressed Iranian people that their legitimate demands for freedom and human rights do have the backing of many of my parliamentary colleagues in the Lords and in the Commons. And it also means that the international community supports their democratic aspirations and it is ready to stand with every one of you in this struggle to achieve these rights.”
The rally supports the political platform of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). Her ten-point platform for a free and democratic Iran, which includes an end to theocratic rule, generates huge support from Iranians and the global community.
Mr. Amess, a Conservative MP, said: “We will once again show the major support we have for a free and democratic Iran among Iranians. And that there is a significant international support for the people's democratic aspirations.”
