Locals commemorate Labor Day western Iran to prevent any government bans

Labor Day commemoration in Sanandaj, western Iran
Workers and labor rights advocates in Sanandaj, western Iran, held a ceremony commemorating International Labor Day. This ceremony was held earlier this year to prevent any measures by the Iranian regime aimed at banning such gatherings.
On Friday, April 22nd a group of workers and labor advocates in Sanandaj commemorated International Labor Day and held a ceremony on this occasion.

The even began with the “International” anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of all those who lost their lives for the workers’ rights cause. After a number of speeches and poems, a resolution was read out by the women in this gathering. The articles of this resolution emphasized on workers’ rights, including the following demands:
Right to association, hold protests, strikes, freedom of speech, increased wages meeting today’s living standards, providing workers’ pensions, adequate insurance, cancelling part-time and “white signatures” contracts, equality of men and women in all social, economic and political aspects of life, the release of all jailed workers and labor advocates.
The ceremony began with an open debate, sweets being distributed, and all participants singing and dancing on this occasion.
This event was held at a time when the mullahs’ regime has from April 20th forward launched its measures to prevent any type of demonstration by laborers on International Labor Day. As usual, each year Iranian regime authorities take measures to cement a climate of fear by threatening the workers and preventing them from staging any type of protests. This year it is more of the same and the mullahs’ apparatus in the city of Sanandaj have been summoning workers and their representatives before Labor Day to prevent these types of ceremonies.

It is worth noting that various associations of workers, college students, women, youths and business owners from various cities in Iran have responded in support to the call issued by the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran to hold demonstrations and protests on International Labor Day.
