Children of Iran
Let’s take
a quick trip together, visiting the neighborhoods and gray streets of Iran. Let
us see the cities’ busy highways. Let us hear the voice of Iran’s innocent
children. They spend days and nights in these crowded streets amongst these
vehicles, behind red lights, in busses, metros and other public areas of the
city. With their desperate looks to the face of the people passing by to maybe
sell a flower, some nuts, a newspaper or maybe a box of napkins. Yes, this is
the share of Iran’s vast ocean of oil for these children!
The number
of children under the age of 18 in Iran total to 17 million in Iran, according
to existing information in the registry website. However, according to
statistics provided education system in Iran, the number of children actually
going to school are only 13 million. This in itself is 4 million more than the
actual number of children in schools. If we decrease the number of deaths and
migrations, we have at least 3 million children deprived of education who
usually enter the harsh working cycle in today’s society.
Working children’s age groups
Around 30%
of street children in Iran do not go to school and most of them are boys,
according to official numbers.
