Iran: silent army of unemployed people will topple the regime

Neglecting population and housing numbers in the past few years, and lack of adequate planning by the government, have led to a major unemployment crisis in the society, in a way that one can say a silent army of unemployed people will lead to the toppling of any government, warned Secretary-General of Iran’s House of Economics.

“For each college student we must consider two unemployed individuals with lesser education. This means in the next few years we need to create 15 million new jobs,” Massoud Daneshmand said.

“Around $70,000 dollars is needed for every new job; meaning we need a budget of $10 billion to have the college students graduating in the next few years entering the job market not end up unemployed. The government cannot provide for such a budget and there is a need for foreign investment,” he continued.

“There is an estimated 5 million people unemployed and in each hour around 150 individuals are added to the unemployed population. This has enormously increased concerns in this regard,” Iran’s Chamber of Commerce chief had said in the past.

Through a quick count one can conclude that 3,600 people a day; 25,200 people a week and 108,000 people a month; and around 1.3 million people a year are added to the unemployed numbers. This significant population demanding jobs is a sign of increasing unemployment and a growing demand for jobs.

“When the country faces recession, the entrance of informed people and practical solutions alongside cooperation amongst governments can be the main solution to exit the recession impasse,” said Ahmad Amir Ahmadi, deputy chair of Iran’s Chamber of Industry, Mining and Trade.

This comes at a time that dilemmas at the top brass in Iran do not allow the regime to establish economic relations with the outside world, nor do foreign governments show any tendency to invest in the bankrupt regime in Iran.
