Iran: Narges Mohammadi in solitary confinement – pain & suffering far beyond prison

Political prisoner Narges Mohammadi – A human rights advocate in solitary confinement
Narges Mohammadi, political prisoner and human rights advocate in Iran, has recently been sentenced by the mullahs’ so-called judiciary system to another 10 years behind bars. Mohammadi has in a letter to the Pen Association unveiled the extremely critical situation of solitary confinement detentions in Iran under the mullahs’ rule.

She writes about the inhumane pressures imposed in Iran prisons:
“Enduring the pains and sufferings of solitary confinement in security wards is far beyond anything in prison. We are 25 women (detained in Evin Prison) and we have endured a total of 150 months (more than 12 years) in security wards. The punishments imposed in solitary confinement are much more severe than those in prison, and unendurable pressures are imposed on the prisoners. Unfortunately, defendants undergo enormous sufferings and psychological torture prior to their court hearings and prosecution. This period is named the ‘initial investigations’.’’
“One use of solitary confinement is to obtain confessions and baseless admissions against the defendants themselves, to allow the court judges issue very heavy rulings,” Mohammadi added.

At the end of her letter Mohammadi called on the Pen Association to take action and for international pressure on the Iranian regime to end this inhumane torture.
