A 26-year-old woman in a village near the city of
Mariwan in western Iran committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on Sunday,
February 7th, according to state-run news agencies. Poverty and
unemployment has been described as the reason behind this horrific act.
The number of suicides and people setting
themselves ablaze, especially among young women, is on the rise due to
vicious crackdown measures by the state. This is being described as a
catastrophe in Iran.
