Storeowners and Shapoor bazaar merchants went on strike at around 9am on
Tuesday, February 16th, protesting state agents’ interference in
their affairs. These storeowners were especially angry at tax agents.
According to one storeowner they had coordinated to close at 9 am to
prevent any tax agents from entering their stores.
Prior to this the storeowners were told they must place all their financial
accounts, purchase receipts, lists of warehouse items and even the warehouses
at the agents disposal to allow them calculate taxes for the period of March
2015 to March 2016.
It is worth noting that storeowners in this area had prior to this staged
rallies protesting state organs’ interference in their internal affairs. When
state agents neglected the storeowners’ protests, they were left with no choice
but to stage a strike.
