Iran: “no one welcoming regime elections” in Torbat-e Jom

A driver in the city of Torbat-e Jom in eastern Iran said in a short interview on Tuesday, February 16th on the upcoming twin elections in Iran: “In Torbat-e Jom there is no place for the state elections and the people are not welcoming such a development. There are no jobs. All construction projects are suspended. Lesser companies are providing commuting services. A driver who earned 500,000 rials last year is now making 250,000 rials ($70).

“Incomes are not sufficient in comparison to the skyrocketing prices, and one has to make ends meet through other means. Savings have reached zero and we have no such money anymore. Production workshops are closed down and only the workshops producing clothing for school children are active. The pasteurized milk factory is closed down. The livestock food factory is closed down. Those working with commuting companies are all working in two jobs, all hours of the day just to make ends meet. Farmers and professors, they are all working in construction projects. However, this year all construction projects are suspended, too.

“With all this unemployment and dissent no one has any motivation to take part in the regime’s elections, and we will not participate.”
