Iran: execution of political prisoners may restart in near future

The Iranian regime is set to launch a new wave of executions on the brink of the Iranian calendar near year (March 21st), according to a number of prison guards in Gohardasht Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran.

Prison officials have informed death row prisoners that the regime didn’t want Rouhani’s trip to Europe to face a massive wave of global protests. However, following these developments they will re-launch a wave of executions, specifically seeking to carry out these executions before the New Year when the media is busy covering other issues, in order to stir less protests, gain a limited amount of media coverage and raise lesser international pressure, the prison guards added.
